Industrial Change in Wales Ebbw Vale has changed dramatically. Where now lies a barren empty valley once stood the largest steelworks in Europe. The story of the South Wales valleys is a picture of a world that no longer exists. Once a working mining and steel industry, the region now experiences unemployment and poverty.
