Aid to TANZANIA
Tanzania
What is aid?
Aid is another word for ‘help’. Richer countries give poorer countries aid to help them to make a better future for themselves.
The UK is one of six countries in Europe who have promised to increase the amount of aid they give to 0.7 per cent of their national income by 2015. Only five countries have managed to reach so this target far.
The UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown wants to see 100 per cent debt relief for African countries. He also wants to see countries in the European Union doubling the amount of aid they currently give.
The US has also promised £350m of aid for Africa, most of it to fight hunger in Ethiopia and Eritrea.
A Successs Story - read about how aid has helped out one Tanzanian pupil.
