The Great Barrier Reef

Sustainable Management of the Great Barrier Reef, Australia
The worlds largest CORAL REEF (over 300,000 square kms).

The Great Barrier Reef is situated off Australia's, Gold Coast (NE) around Queensland. It is a popular tourist, research and fishing region used by over 7 million people each year.

As a result off this, the reef is under threat!!

Sustainable Management Strategy

In order for people to continue to use and enjoy the reef, the Australian Government has set up a management protection program to ensure the reef can be enjoyed by future generations (sustainablity). However, can the recently voted "Best Tourism Destination in the World" and the most fragile ecosystem on the planet work in partnership?

They have divided the reef into several ZONES which have varying levels of protection. see map.
The video below also evaluates the effectiveness of the Zoning Strategy.
